Overview

Tucked in the Grant Grove area at about 6,500 feet, the Crystal Springs Campground Group Sites are a convenient base for groups who want to sleep under tall conifers and be minutes from the park’s headline sequoias. You’re close to village services yet still feel in the woods, with trail access to the General Grant Tree and big views at Panoramic Point.

Campsites & Layout

These are mid‑sized, tent‑only group sites (A–N) designed for 7–15 people and up to 4 vehicles per site. Each group site comes with three picnic tables, a fire ring, and two bear‑resistant food lockers. RVs and trailers aren’t permitted in the group loop.

Amenities

Potable water and restrooms are available in the campground, and campers consistently note running water and bathrooms on site. There are no showers in the campground itself—most folks use token showers near John Muir Lodge when available, or plan a shower run elsewhere in the park. Expect morning bathroom bottlenecks on busy weekends.

Rules that Matter

Check-in/check-out is at noon; quiet hours run 10 pm–6 am. Generators: 9 am–9 pm.
Bear country rules are strict. Store all food and scented items in the bear boxes whenever they’re not within arm’s reach. Locker size is roughly 28"H x 33"D x 47"W.
Fires are allowed when restrictions aren’t in effect; keep them attended and fully out (cool to the touch). No glass, aluminum, or food in fire rings.
Pets are allowed in campgrounds and picnic areas on a leash (≤6 ft), not on trails and not left unattended.
Park with all wheels on pavement; use overflow if your vehicles don’t fit.

Location Perks

Grant Grove Village is just up the road with a visitor center, market, restaurant, gift shop, and post office. From camp you’ve got quick access to the General Grant Tree loop, shaded walks through Grant Grove, and a short drive up to Panoramic Point. Hume Lake makes a pleasant half‑day for fishing or a picnic, and Sequoia’s Giant Forest is within an hour if you’re game for a bigger outing.

Wildlife & Conditions

Black bears roam this area—use the lockers religiously and keep camps tidy. Deer are frequently spotted in and around camp. Late summer often brings persistent wasps; seal food and sweet drinks and minimize attractants. Nights can be cool at this elevation even in midsummer.

Best Time to Visit

The group loop typically operates May–September. Summer weekends can book out months ahead—midweek stays are calmer. Arrive earlier in the day to set up, beat afternoon thundershowers, and sneak in a sunset drive to Panoramic Point. Mornings are prime for quiet walks to the General Grant Tree before day‑trippers show up.
