John Muir Lodge

John Muir Lodge is a 36-room stone-and-timber hotel in Grant Grove Village. It’s a practical overnight base for exploring the Grant Grove sequoia grove and General Grant Tree, with the visitor center and village services nearby. If you want to stay inside the park close to those walks, this is a convenient fit.

Standard rooms have two queen beds; deluxe rooms have a king and a sofa bed. Both have private bathrooms, mini-fridges and coffee makers. The great room has a stone fireplace and a historic redwood mantel from Sequoia National Park, plus books, puzzles and games. Public balconies are a good place to sit out and watch the Sierra sunset. Guest Wi-Fi is available.

Summer can be a warm stay: tower fans are available, air conditioning isn’t listed, and some guests report warm rooms. Noise feedback is mixed too; some guests describe quiet rooms, while others report sound carrying between rooms.

Grant Grove Restaurant is a short walk away, serving American meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The Grant Grove Market, gift shop, post office and visitor center are also in the village. That makes it easy to leave the car parked between outings, though dining choices here are limited compared with a town. These are separate village stops, not services inside the lodge.

Built in 1998, the lodge is named for conservationist John Muir. A painting of him is part of the lobby, while the fireplace’s redwood mantel came from Sequoia National Park.
