Pros & cons
PROS
- Right by the main parking garage and Visitor Center
- Views of the dam and bridge from seating
CONS
- Prices run high for a captive, on-site option
- Seats fill fast mid-day; expect lines
Overview
High Scaler Cafe is the on‑site concession by Hoover Dam’s main parking garage and the High Scaler statue on the Nevada side. Food service moved here in 2000 from the old Spillway House “Snacketeria,” making this the convenient place to refuel without leaving the dam. It’s part of the Hoover Dam complex (managed by the Bureau of Reclamation), not one of the marina eateries in the recreation area.
What to Expect
- Counter‑service cafe attached to a large gift shop—handy for dam‑themed souvenirs.
- Seating inside and outdoors; expect lines and scarce tables around lunchtime.
- From some tables you can look out toward the dam and the Mike O’Callaghan–Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge.
Food & Drink
Think quick, familiar fare: burgers, wraps, hot dogs (including the footlong “dam dog”), fries, fish and chips, coffee, smoothies, and other grab‑and‑go items. Reviews often note fresh prep and speedy service. Typical prices land around $10–20, with a few items higher.
Logistics
- Location: directly in front of the main parking garage, just south of the Hoover Dam Visitor and Tour Center.
- Hours: generally 9 AM–4 PM daily.
- Restrooms: standard running‑water facilities are on the parking garage bus level right by the cafe.
- Reality check: this is effectively the only full food option on the dam; otherwise you’re looking at vending machines.
Best Time to Visit
Arrive near opening (around 9 AM) for shorter lines and easier seating, or swing by mid‑afternoon after the lunch rush. Expect heavier crowds during peak periods like spring break.
