Lake Mead Cruises Dock

Overview

This floating dock at Hemenway Harbor is where you board the Desert Princess paddlewheeler for narrated cruises to Hoover Dam. It sits between Las Vegas Boat Harbor and Lake Mead Marina, about 15 minutes by car from the dam, with a big dirt parking lot and straightforward wayfinding to the boarding ramp. Use 490 Horsepower Cove Rd, Boulder City, NV 89005 for navigation.

What You’ll See

From the water you’ll get sweeping views of Hoover Dam, Black Canyon’s rugged walls, and the bypass bridge—angles you simply can’t get from the road. Expect an easygoing, roughly 90‑minute outing focused on the dam and nearby shoreline rather than racing around the whole lake.

Onboard Experience

Cruises are narrated and the boat offers climate‑controlled indoor decks plus an open promenade. The Paddle Wheel Grill serves burgers, hot dogs, and sandwiches, and there’s a full bar. Restrooms are plentiful: at the landing (7 total) and on the boat (5 total). There’s also a small gift shop at the dock.

Logistics & Policies

• Reservations are recommended; sightseeing cruises can be booked close to departure, while meal cruises typically need more lead time.
• Dress casually, with shoes and streetwear required; uncovered bathing suits aren’t permitted.
• Only service animals are allowed. No outside food or beverages (water is fine). Smoking, firearms, drones, and wrapped gifts are prohibited. Coast Guard rules mean bags may receive a brief security check.
• There’s no separate parking fee, but the national recreation area charges an entrance fee at the gate (cashless). As of November 23, 2025, it’s $25 per private vehicle for 1–7 days; America the Beautiful passes are accepted.
• Transportation notes: there’s no shuttle from the Las Vegas Strip. Rideshare/taxi fares often run around $100 each way, so arrange pickup in advance. Bus parking is available, and staff direct where to park.

Seasonal Notes

Sightseeing cruises are operating; brunch and dinner cruises are paused until further notice. The operation often goes quiet in December–January—always reconfirm schedules before you go.

Wildlife

Keep an eye on the hills around Hemenway Harbor for desert bighorn sheep, especially near nearby Hemenway Park. In winter, watch for bald eagles and other waterbirds from the decks. Observe from a distance and never feed wildlife.

Best Time to Visit

Aim for the earliest cruise of the day for lighter crowds, softer light on the canyon walls, and cooler temps. Midday top‑deck seats have great vistas but little shade—bring sun protection and a layer for the breeze. Weekdays are typically calmer than weekends. If you’re targeting special meal cruises, reconfirm a week out since offerings change.
