Overview

Upscale “bush‑luxe” in a dramatic kopje above the Grumeti River. It’s quieter than the busy central Serengeti, yet you still get big‑ticket wildlife and those river views that steal the show.

Location & Setting

Perched over the Grumeti in the northern Serengeti (near Lobo), the camp overlooks hippo‑rich water and open country. It’s roughly a 60‑minute road transfer from Lobo Airstrip. Expect animal sounds at night and sightings right from camp.

Tents & Facilities

There are 20 elevated, richly furnished tents, each with a private 360‑degree verandah. Inside: ensuite bathrooms with flushing toilets, walk‑in showers, twin vanities, and 24‑hour hot/cold running water. You also get 24‑hour power, room safes, fans, and soft furnishings that make it feel more “boutique hotel with canvas walls” than rustic camp.

The split‑level lounge and open‑air restaurant stare straight across the river. There’s a large swimming pool, a sunset viewing deck with a campfire, Wi‑Fi in the lounge, laundry included, currency exchange, a spa, and a mini‑bar. Drinks are mostly included (excluding champagne, cellar wines, and imported spirits). The camp is unfenced, with 24/7 askari escorts, an on‑site medical officer, and flying doctor links. Credit cards are accepted with about a 3% surcharge.

Wildlife & Activities

Game drives run morning/afternoon or as full‑day outings. Guided walking safaris (~2.5 hours; about US$95 per person) get you into the details; note that under‑16s can’t join these walks. Hot‑air ballooning is available nearby, and birding is excellent.

Great Migration Reality Check

This location shines for the Migration roughly July–November, with particularly strong late‑season action around October–November. Outside those months you’ll still find good game viewing, but you may drive about 20 km toward Lobo for the most reliable concentrations.

What Could Be Better

The camp is larger than many boutique outfits and sometimes hosts groups, so it can feel less intimate. Stairs link the main areas and tents, and verandas can be visible from paths—keep that in mind if privacy is a priority.

Family Notes

Children of all ages are welcome, and camp‑based nature walks for kids can be arranged. Because the property is unfenced, close supervision is essential. Safari walks are adults‑only (16+).

Ideal Stay & Best Time to Visit

Three nights is the sweet spot to soak up the river setting and explore the Lobo/Grumeti area. For timing, target July–November for Migration viewing. Sunsets are superb from the bar and viewing deck, and this northern sector generally sees fewer vehicles than central areas.
