This spot shines when the Great Migration sweeps the Western Corridor, typically May–July, as herds move toward the Mbalageti and Grumeti rivers. It’s also a quieter base than the central plains, with wildlife moving through the nearby riverine habitat year‑round.
From the dining room and verandas, guests regularly watch plains life unfold—think giraffe parades, zebra lines, and the odd lion or buffalo—without leaving the hill. Game drives in the surrounding corridor turn up elephants, big cats, hippos, and excellent birding. When the migration is in town, it’s all about tracking those wildebeest and zebra lines toward the river crossings.
Breakfasts cover the classics (eggs, pancakes, fresh fruit). Lunch often runs buffet‑style, and the kitchen preps picnic boxes for early game drives. Dinners rotate themes—African night, Thai night, carnivore night—with live stations and grilled skewers; note that some travelers find the buffet setup and lunch boxes repetitive.
Guided game drives work both the Western Corridor and central areas. Hot‑air balloon safaris (extra cost) give you that sunrise Serengeti panorama, and guided bush walks bring the smaller details into focus.
Parking is available at the lodge. Out on drives, don’t count on public restrooms—plan for bush breaks. Expect limited connectivity: Wi‑Fi in the main buildings and no cell service reported by guests. As with most bush properties, wildlife can wander through; keep doors latched and food stowed.
If you’re flying, Kirawira Airstrip is roughly a 1‑hour drive away; Seronera Airstrip is about 2 hours 40 minutes by road, depending on conditions.
