Sasakwa Airstrip

Overview

Sasakwa Airstrip is the private fly-in gateway to Singita’s Grumeti Reserve, bordering the western Serengeti. It’s roughly 10 km from Sasakwa Lodge, designed for seamless lodge transfers and a quieter arrival than the busier public strips. The runway is suitable for most private jets, and charter hops from Arusha or Kilimanjaro keep transit time short.

Wildlife & Seasonality

Grumeti delivers excellent game viewing year‑round. The Great Migration typically passes through this western corridor around June–August, but even outside that window, sightings are strong—think buffalo, cheetah, eland, elephant, giraffe, hippo, lion, spotted hyena, wildebeest, and zebra. Wildlife can be near the runway, so you’ll stay with your guide and vehicle.

This is a private airstrip serving Singita lodges. There’s no public parking, and facilities are intentionally minimal—no shops, ATMs, or public Wi‑Fi. On regional charters, plan for soft‑sided bags only and roughly 15 kg checked plus 5 kg hand luggage per person. Your lodge coordinates meet‑and‑greet and road transfers.

Best Time to Visit

For wildlife-focused trips, June–August aligns with the local Migration period, though any month works here. Flight activity tends to peak late morning into early afternoon with lodge changeovers; early morning and late‑day movements are usually quieter.
