Overview

Set on the Nyarboro Hills in the park’s southwest, Serengeti Sopa Lodge is a classic, large lodge with knockout views and a relaxed, social vibe. It trades boutique charm for big‑lodge convenience—think a proper pool, multiple bars, and plenty of space to spread out.

Rooms

There are 69 standard rooms plus 4 two‑storey suites. Standards are spacious and functional with two queen beds under nets, en‑suite bathrooms, and verandas facing the plains; some rooms interconnect for families. Suites add a downstairs lounge and an upstairs bedroom with twin showers and a large tub, plus two balconies.

Facilities & Services

Expect a large swimming pool with a pool bar, a main bar (Agama Bar), lounge/TV room, small gym with views, gift/curio shop, and a conference room (up to ~100). Free Wi‑Fi is available in the main/public areas and power runs 24 hours (solar plus generator). Laundry is offered for a fee. Security is robust, with night escorts and a TANAPA ranger on site, and there’s a resident health professional with access to flying doctors if needed.

Food & Drink

Breakfast is buffet. Packed lunches are the norm for full‑day drives. Dinner is usually à la carte, but switches to buffet when occupancy is high; themed nights or bush lunches/BBQ can be arranged at extra cost. There’s also a rooftop bar/terrace for sundowners with big‑sky sunsets.

Wildlife & Activities

You’re well placed for resident game all year, with the migration typically moving through this sector around May. The lodge itself does not run guided game drives—you explore with your own private guide/vehicle. Hot‑air ballooning and simple add‑ons like birdwatching or sundowners can be arranged.

Practicalities

Hot water is usually on timed windows (about 6–9 a.m. and 6–9 p.m.). Rooms don’t have in‑room phones, so any room service or special requests should be set up in advance. Payments are straightforward—major currencies and common cards are typically accepted. Transfer times are reasonable: roughly 50 minutes from Seronera Airstrip and about an hour from Naabi Hill gate (give or take road conditions).

Best Time to Visit

For wildlife, late April–June often lines up with migration movements here (timing varies by year). For atmosphere and photography, plan sundowners on the terrace—sunset light over the plains is the sweet spot. If you prefer quieter dining and à la carte dinners, you’ll like lower‑occupancy periods; when the lodge is full, expect a busier buffet scene.
