Overview
Los Roques de García is the photogenic cluster of rock towers in the heart of the Las Cañadas caldera—think Roque Cinchado (“Finger of God”), La Catedral, Roque Blanco, and the Lava Waterfall framed by Mount Teide. It’s one of the park’s most beloved stops and part of a UNESCO World Heritage landscape.
The Classic Loop (PNT‑03)
- Distance/time: about 3.5 km, low difficulty, typically 1.5–2 hours.
- Start/finish: Mirador de la Ruleta, directly opposite the Parador and Cañada Blanca Visitor Center.
- What you’ll see (clockwise): close-ups of La Catedral and La Cascada, shifting angles on Roque Cinchado, broad caldera panoramas, and layered lava textures. Highest point is around 2,187 m, so expect thinner air and strong sun.
What Makes It Special
These top‑heavy spires are the product of Teide’s complex volcanic history and long‑term erosion. The loop gives you front‑row geology without committing to a big mountain day—constant views, sculptural rock, and classic Teide-and-spire photo ops from the mirador.
Getting There & Parking
Free lots sit on TF‑21 at Mirador de la Ruleta and at the Parador de Las Cañadas across the road. They’re busiest roughly 10:00–14:00. Bus riders can use Titsa line 342, which stops by the visitor center next to the Parador; tours often pause here for photos.
Facilities, Food & Water
There are no services on the loop. Use the Cañada Blanca Visitor Center facilities during their posted hours, or the Parador cafeteria/restaurant (restrooms for patrons). New public toilets at La Ruleta have been funded—check on arrival if they’re operating. Bring plenty of water; shade is scarce.
Best Time to Visit
Sunrise and late afternoon deliver softer light on Teide and fewer crowds. Spring (March–June) and autumn (September–November) balance milder temperatures with manageable visitation; winter can be cold and windy at altitude, while summer is busier but warmer.
Safety & Trail Tips
High UV and dry air are the norm at 2,000+ meters—pack sun protection and 1–2 liters of water per person. The path is rocky in spots; wear grippy shoes. Short spurs near the mirador give the best angles on Roque Cinchado. Wayfinding is straightforward on the signed circuit.
