Set in open meadow country, Norris Meadows Picnic Area is a simple, day‑use stop with just what you need for a relaxed meal between sights. Expect basic amenities, big sky, and the chance to watch wildlife moving through the grasses while you eat.

What You’ll Find

• Facilities: nine picnic tables, two fire grates, and a vault toilet.
• Fires and cooking: campfires are permitted only in the provided grates; camp stoves and self‑contained charcoal grills are allowed throughout the picnic area.
• Water: there’s no running water here—plan to bring what you need for drinking and cleanup.
• Camping: picnic areas are day‑use only; no overnight camping is allowed.

Wildlife & Safety

Meadows in this part of the park are prime grazing habitat, so elk and bison commonly use them. You’re in bear country, too. Keep food, coolers, trash, and cooking gear secured immediately, never feed wildlife, give animals ample space, and carry bear spray and know how to use it.

Geology Context

Norris sits amid some of the park’s most changeable hydrothermal terrain. Those warm, active ground conditions influence the meadows and can make them attractive forage zones for wildlife, especially when other areas are snow‑covered.
