Set in open meadow country, Norris Meadows Picnic Area is a simple, day‑use stop with just what you need for a relaxed meal between sights. Expect basic amenities, big sky, and the chance to watch wildlife moving through the grasses while you eat.
Meadows in this part of the park are prime grazing habitat, so elk and bison commonly use them. You’re in bear country, too. Keep food, coolers, trash, and cooking gear secured immediately, never feed wildlife, give animals ample space, and carry bear spray and know how to use it.
Norris sits amid some of the park’s most changeable hydrothermal terrain. Those warm, active ground conditions influence the meadows and can make them attractive forage zones for wildlife, especially when other areas are snow‑covered.
It’s day‑use only, so treat this as a convenient lunch or snack stop while touring the Norris area. Bring your own water and check current fire restrictions or area advisories before you arrive.
