Norris Campground is a 112-site campground 0.8 miles north of Norris Junction, tucked among lodgepole pines beside a meadow along the Gibbon River. Its position near Yellowstone’s road-loop junction made it a practical base for day trips around the park.
When operating, the campground has seasonal potable water, flush toilets, accessible vault toilets, two accessible campsites, and an accessible flush restroom near the entrance. Paths are compacted gravel or dirt. Some sites are narrow or uneven, and most do not fit oversized vehicles. There are no showers, camp store, laundry, or dump station.
Campers valued the river and open meadow beside the pines, and bison sometimes wandered near the camping loops. Its central location was useful for reaching Norris Geyser Basin and Yellowstone’s other road-loop destinations. Site size and privacy vary, so this is a practical base more than a destination in its own right.
