You’ll find it on the one‑way Firehole Lake Drive, a scenic turn‑off from the Grand Loop Road. Driving this loop from the West Yellowstone side toward Old Faithful/Grand Prismatic makes Surprise Pool an easy add‑on. Look for a small parking area; from there, a short boardwalk leads to the overlook.

Best Time to Visit

Because Firehole Lake Drive is one‑way and Surprise Pool’s parking is limited, aim for early morning or late afternoon for a smoother stop. Midday tends to be busier as road‑trippers stack up quick thermal stops.
