Vent Geyser is a small fountain geyser tucked beside the Grand–Turban duo in the Upper Geyser Basin. It’s most lively during and after Grand Geyser’s show, when Vent often pulses to life in concert with its bigger neighbor. Think of it as the sidekick that adds texture and timing to the Grand performance rather than a headliner on its own.

When Grand Geyser erupts, keep your eyes on Vent. It typically wakes up with rhythmic bursts that complement the main event, giving you a multi-geyser spectacle without moving your feet. On quieter stretches, Vent can be subdued, so your best bet is to time your visit around Grand’s prediction window.

Getting There

There’s no separate trailhead or pullout for Vent. Park at the Old Faithful complex and follow the main Upper Geyser Basin boardwalk toward Castle and Grand Geyser. It’s roughly a 0.5–1 mile, mostly level stroll on boardwalks and paved paths.

Facilities & Food

Use the flush restrooms at the Old Faithful Visitor Education Center or nearby lodges before you head out; facilities on the basin itself are limited and can see lines at peak times. Dining options are clustered around Old Faithful’s lodges and grills—easy to reach before or after your geyser walk.

Plan your stop around Grand Geyser’s predicted eruption times—Vent’s best activity typically piggybacks on Grand. Arrive a bit early to claim rail space on the boardwalk. Parking is simpler early morning or late afternoon; midday brings the thickest crowds in peak season.
