Overview
A few minutes from the Delicate Arch Trailhead by Wolfe Ranch, the Ute Rock Art Panel delivers a compact hit of cultural history. It’s a short spur off the main path, so you can add it to your Delicate Arch outing without breaking stride.
What You’ll See
The panel features distinctive Ute petroglyphs carved into Entrada Sandstone—horseback riders, bighorn sheep, and dogs—imagery that helps date the site to roughly 1650–1850. The figures are crisp, and there’s on-site signage explaining the significance.
Why It’s Worth Your Time
- It’s one of the park’s easiest rock art stops—no big hike required.
- The horse motifs are a later-era twist compared to older regional rock art, making this panel a different story than you’ll see elsewhere.
- Wolfe Ranch sits right next door, so you get two history hits in one stop.
Getting There & Logistics
From the Delicate Arch Trailhead parking, follow the signed spur toward the rock art—about a short walk (roughly a quarter mile). Parking and restrooms are at the trailhead; there are no facilities at the panel itself beyond the interpretive sign. Stay on the marked path and definitely don’t touch the carvings.
Wildlife
This corner of desert often hosts lizards, rabbits, and birds; mule deer or even bighorn sheep occasionally roam through. Keep your distance and your eyes open as you move between the trailhead, Wolfe Ranch, and the panel.
Best Time to Visit
Early morning or late afternoon gives the petroglyphs better contrast for photos and keeps you out of the harshest heat. Peak season brings a steady trickle of viewers thanks to the Delicate Arch traffic, but it’s typically a quick, move-along stop.
Etiquette & Preservation
Keep hands off the rock—oils and vandalism can permanently damage the art. Respect closures and stay behind any barriers; the sandstone and the site are fragile.
