Guide
Bull Creek Hut is a basic four-bunk backcountry hut at about 660 m in Arthur's Pass National Park. It is free and first-come, first-served, with no booking required. This is a specialist overnight destination, not a casual roadside stop: there is no DOC track to the hut, and you need to plan and navigate your own approach.
The New Zealand Forest Service's George Boyd and Jack Elcock built the hut in winter 1954, largely from bush timber. Brian Taylor substantially rebuilt it in 1989. Volunteers replaced the roof and added a clear-light panel and woodshed in January 2016. Inside, the short bunks are stacked and interleaved, so four people share a very tight space.
