Skoki Lodge

Skoki Lodge is a historic high-alpine lodge in Skoki Valley, north of Lake Louise. It’s a planned overnight stay, not a drive-up stop: the approach is about 11 km and 3–5 hours one way, with Deception Pass reaching 2,485 m. The hiking approach is intermediate. Check your booking instructions for the season’s trailhead and transfer details; there’s no road to the lodge.

The lodge has no electricity or indoor toilets. Rooms are lit by candles and oil lamps, wash water is supplied, and the lavatories are outhouses. Meals and shared dining are part of an overnight stay; packed lunches are available for day outings. The backcountry kitchen can’t guarantee an allergen-free environment, so discuss dietary needs when booking.

The first ski guests arrived in spring 1931, after Banff residents formed the Ski Club of the Canadian Rockies to run the lodge. Its heritage-listed complex has six buildings: the main log lodge and five cabins or service buildings added between 1932 and 1936. The original lodge grew over several seasons, with an upper floor, dormers and living room added in the mid-1930s.

In summer, the lodge opens onto mountain ridges, alpine lakes and five adjoining valleys; the meadows bloom with wildflowers in midsummer. Winter brings ski touring, telemarking and cross-country routes. Winter approaches cross avalanche terrain, so treat them as backcountry travel and check conditions before setting out.
