This is a classic Banff day hike for big Castle Mountain walls, two alpine lakes, open meadows, and a standout September larch display. The standard route visits flower-fringed Tower Lake before continuing to the larger, cliff-ringed Rockbound Lake.

The route is an out-and-back corridor from the Rockbound Lake parking area to Rockbound Lake: about 8.7 km one way, or 17.5 km (10.9 miles) total, with roughly 765 m (2,510 ft) of elevation gain. Parks Canada estimates 6 to 7 hours round trip. It climbs steadily through mixed forest on a path with many roots and rocks; views open near Tower Lake, then the trail climbs a low cliff band into Rockbound Lake's glacial cirque.
The route is non-technical but long and sustained. A short optional side trail to Silverton Falls branches off near the beginning; it is not part of the mapped Rockbound Lake corridor. Beyond Rockbound Lake, a steep path can continue toward a broad plateau, but that optional extension is not part of this trail record and becomes route-finding terrain as the path fades.
