The Jackrabbit’s Cooling Ears“A black-tailed jackrabbit's enormous ears help it shed heat as well as hear. They're full of blood vessels that widen when the animal needs to cool down, letting more heat escape through the ear's surface.”

Guide
The Invisible Wildlife Exhibit is a small roadside interpretive stop 6.5 miles west of Panther Junction. It explains why Chihuahuan Desert wildlife can be hard to spot and how learning when animals are active can improve your chances. Think of it as a short pause for curious visitors, not a promise of a sighting.
The useful idea is that the desert can seem empty while animals are resting or hidden; their habits give you a better reason to look. Read the panel, then keep watch as you continue through Big Bend. Sightings remain unpredictable.
