Erskine Lookout

Overview

Erskine Lookout is a low-key gem on the Jack Evans Track in the Glenbrook area, delivering a big Blue Mountains payoff for minimal effort. It’s a short out-and-back bushwalk that trades the throngs for tranquility and frames up sweeping views into rugged Erskine Gorge.

The Walk

Expect roughly 600–650m return and around 20–30 minutes on a well-worn bush track. It’s graded moderate with a few short, steeper or uneven bits, but most walkers with basic bush experience will find it straightforward.

What You’ll See

From the lookout, the landscape drops away into Erskine Gorge and classic Blue Mountains bushland. Along the way, you’ll wander past sculpted sandstone outcrops, grass trees, and—if you time it right—seasonal wildflowers that brighten the track.

Wildlife

This is typical habitat for native birdlife and small reptiles. Keep your eyes and ears open—bird calls carry nicely over the gorge, and skinks and lizards often bask on warm rock.

Safety and Practicalities

There are no toilets, water, or bins here—treat it as a simple viewpoint on a bush track. Edges near the lookout are unfenced with sheer drops, so be mindful around the rim and keep children close. Carry out all rubbish.

Best Time to Visit

Spring brings the best wildflower show and comfortable walking temps. It’s pleasant most of the year outside high fire danger days. If you value solitude, weekdays are your friend—this spot is already quieter than headline lookouts.

Tips

Nearest facilities are at the Jellybean Pool area on the way in. Bring water, a small snack, and a map or offline track notes. Sturdy shoes help on the short steep or rocky sections.
