Government Town campground is a bush camping area of unmarked sites for tents and camper trailers, near the old silver-mining settlement of Yerranderie. It is an open area rather than a set of numbered pads. Use it as an overnight base for the settlement’s old buildings and mine relics; this is a basic bush camp, not a serviced holiday park.

The way in is the unsealed Oberon–Colong Historic Stock Route, and there is no access to Yerranderie from Oakdale. This is a remote 4WD trip: there is no fuel, food or water along the route, and online maps can point toward a restricted road through Burragorang Valley. Plan your route through Oberon or Goulburn, carry fuel and food, and bring all drinking water; a potable supply at this campground is not confirmed.

Toilets serve the camping area, but don’t assume the showers or drinking water at the separate Private Town campground are available here. Yerranderie grew around silver: ore was found in 1871, mining began at Bartlett’s Colon Peaks Mine in 1897, and about 100 men worked the field by late 1899. Restored town buildings and mining relics make a night here worthwhile if you’re already making the long drive.
