If you’re happy to trade amenities for ocean soundtrack and white sand, Friendly Beaches Campground at Isaacs Point delivers. Sites sit in low coastal scrub just behind the dunes, with quick paths to the beach and rocky headlands. It’s simple, scenic, and blissfully undeveloped—ideal if you’re self‑sufficient.

Campsites & Facilities

Expect bare‑bones camping: pit toilets, no running water, no bins, and no fire rings. Freycinet is a Fuel‑Stove‑Only area—bring a gas/fuel stove and skip campfires (and on Total Fire Ban days, no naked flames at all). There are no fees to camp, but you must have a valid Tasmania Parks pass. It’s first‑come, first‑served (max stay around two weeks), and suitable for tents, campervans, and caravans. Refill drinking water before you arrive—options include the visitor centre’s filtered station and taps at Honeymoon Bay and the Wineglass Bay Walking Tracks car park.

Beach & Walks

From the same car park a short boardwalk reaches an overlook, with steps down to the sand. South of camp stretches nearly 8 km of undeveloped coast; to the north are rocky pockets and more beach. It’s perfect for long, meditative walks and exploring tidepools and granite outcrops. The beach is not patrolled and conditions can be rough—treat it as a walking and tidepool beach rather than a swimming spot.

Wildlife

This coastline is vital shorebird habitat. From October to March, nest scrapes hide in the sand—walk close to the waterline and give any signed areas a wide berth. Around camp you may spot wallabies and plenty of birdlife; keep food secured to avoid nighttime raids by opportunistic critters.

Rules & Practicalities

• No pets and no bikes.
• Drones are not permitted in Tasmanian national parks or reserves.
• Pack out all rubbish—there’s no collection on site.
• Fishing is allowed from beach or rocks; take care around surging waves.

Getting There

From the Tasman Highway (A3), take Coles Bay Road (C302), then turn onto Friendly Beaches Road (unsealed) for roughly 4 km to the car park and campground access. Sites are tucked along the short dirt spur behind the dunes.

Best Time to Visit

Sunrise and sunset light up the surf and pale sand beautifully. Weekdays outside summer holidays are quieter; arrive earlier in the day (especially Fridays in summer) to snag a level, sheltered nook. On windy afternoons, the scrub provides some buffering, but morning beach walks are usually the sweetest.
