Overview

Tucked into the Maswik Lodge complex on the west side of Grand Canyon Village, this EV spot is one of the most convenient places to top up without leaving the park. The chargers are Level 2, open to the public, and free—perfect for adding range while you grab a meal or unwind between rim walks.

Charging details

  • Level 2 J1772 connectors; public and free of charge.
  • No DC fast charging at this location. If you need speed, plan for options in Tusayan outside the park.
  • Tesla drivers should bring a J1772 adapter; Tesla‑specific connectors are located at Yavapai Lodge East, not at Maswik.

Why choose this spot

Maswik sits a short walk from the South Rim and bundles the practical stuff you want while your car sips electrons: food court, pizza pub, a small store, and indoor restrooms. It’s an easy “plug in and go do things” stop rather than babysitting your car.

What it’s like on arrival

You’re in a piney lodge parking area, not a viewpoint. Expect a steady trickle of village traffic, shuttle buses, and fellow travelers coming and going. Stalls are limited across the Village overall, so patience helps during peak hours.

Wildlife

Developed areas around the Village frequently see birds and small mammals—and sometimes mule deer or elk wander through. Give wildlife space and never feed them.

Alternatives and backup

If Maswik is full, the park also lists public Level 2 chargers at Market Plaza and Yavapai Lodge East (the latter includes some Tesla connectors). For fast charging, look to Tusayan just outside the South Entrance.

Best time to visit

For the highest odds of an open stall: early morning before the day‑trip crowd arrives or later evening after dinner. Midday and peak season (spring–fall) can mean waits. Lighting and photos aren’t the point here—convenience is.

Pros

  • Free, public Level 2 charging 24/7
  • Right by lodge dining, store, and restrooms

Cons

  • Few stalls for the demand; expect occasional waits
  • Level 2 only—no DC fast charging here

Tips

  • Arrive early or late to snag a stall during peak seasons.
  • Bring a J1772 adapter if you drive a Tesla and want to charge here.
  • Plug in, then eat at the Maswik Food Court or Pizza Pub while you wait.
  • If it’s full, check Market Plaza or Yavapai Lodge East as backups.
  • Need fast charging? Head to Tusayan outside the park.
