Colter Bay Marina is the park’s northern hub for getting out on Jackson Lake—think easy logistics, sweeping Mount Moran views, and a summer-camp vibe centered around the water. It sits in a sheltered, artificial bay within Colter Bay Village, so launching and paddling feel calmer than the open lake.
What You Can Do
- Rent canoes, kayaks, or small motorboats to explore inlets and islands.
- Join narrated scenic or meal cruises that often visit Elk Island—great views with a guide doing the storytelling.
- Book guided fishing or pick up licenses, tackle, and basic gear at the marina store.
Logistics & Permits
- All watercraft—including paddleboards—need a park boating permit. Expect mandatory Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) inspections from roughly March through November.
- The paved boat ramp serves the bay, but during low-water years it can be inoperable—have a Plan B if you’re trailering a boat.
- Overnight docking uses end ties (up to 14 nights); bring your own lines. Don’t expect power, water, or showers on the dock itself.
Views & Wildlife
From the docks you’ll get big, head-on Teton panoramas—especially Mount Moran. On the water or along nearby trails, you may spot bears, elk, moose, and raptors. Birders should detour to Swan Lake and Heron Pond for a quieter look at waterfowl and waders.
Nearby Village Perks
Colter Bay Village wraps the marina with everything you need: restaurants, a café court, a grocery and general store, a campground and RV sites, plus a visitor center with excellent Indigenous art and artifact exhibits. It’s an easy base for families or mixed-interest groups.
