The Great Marsh Overlook gives you a front‑row seat to the park’s biggest interdunal wetland. It’s a quick, low‑effort stop with an elevated platform that looks out over open water, sedges, and wet prairie—a restored landscape that now teems with wildlife.

What You’ll See

• Birds: Expect waterfowl and marsh regulars—coots, mallards, wood ducks, herons, egrets, and seasonal migrants. Spring and fall bring especially lively movement.
• Other wildlife: Keep an eye out for beaver sign, muskrats, and sunning turtles; you may also spot snakes along the trail edges.
• Landscape: Sweeping views across a broad, glacially formed wetland basin framed by dunes.

Getting There & The Walk

The overlook sits along the Great Marsh Trail in Beverly Shores. From the south parking area on Broadway, follow the path to a T‑junction and continue straight to the observation deck. From the north parking area, it’s a short, paved stroll to the platform. You can make this a simple out‑and‑back or add the easy loop (about 1.2–1.4 miles total) for more marsh vantage points.

Why It’s Worth Your Time

If you’re into birding or want a calmer, nature‑first stop, this is one of the park’s most reliable places to actually see wildlife. It’s also a nice breather from the busier beaches and dune climbs.

Know Before You Go

• No restrooms or water on‑site—come prepared.
• Insects are part of the deal here; bring repellent in late spring through summer.
• After rain, some sections beyond the paved access can be muddy, and summer vegetation can feel a bit overgrown off the main path.
