Dunewood Campground

Dunewood Campground is the National Park Service's developed campground at Golf Wood Road and Dunewood Parkway near Beverly Shores. Lake View Beach is 1.5 miles north, and the park's other beaches are an easy drive away, so this works well as a place to sleep between shoreline stops. Reserve in advance, check the access and RV-length limits for your individual site, and remember that a valid park entrance pass or receipt is required.

The loops have drive-in and tent-only sites. Each loop's center has restrooms and showers, with potable water at several points; there's also an RV dump station. Individual campsites have no electric or water hookups. Fires must stay in the provided grates, and you'll need to bring your own firewood. Pets must be attended and kept on a leash no longer than six feet. The usual season runs April 1 through November 1; check the booking calendar for the dates available in your year. A gas station and convenience store are about a quarter-mile north, outside the campground.

Tree cover gives the campground a shaded feel, but it isn't a reliably quiet setting. US-12 and the Beverly Shores South Shore station are close by, and traffic and passing trains can carry into camp. Site privacy seems to depend on which space you choose, so look closely at the individual listings if a more sheltered site matters to you. The station is about a quarter-mile north and can also be useful if you're arriving by train.
