If you’re into unplugged nights, campfire chats, and ridiculous stars, HI Beauty Creek delivers. It’s a tiny, off-grid wilderness hostel right by the Sunwapta River on the Icefields Parkway—more nature retreat than typical lodging.
The Experience
Expect simple bunk rooms, a communal vibe, and a back-to-basics rhythm. There’s no running water or showers, and bathrooms are outhouses. Lights and cooking run on propane (with minimal solar at most). You’ll cook together, swap stories around the fire pit, and actually hear the river.
Location & Nearby Trails
You’re about 1 km from the Beauty Creek/Stanley Falls canyon walk—a short, underrated outing with a string of waterfalls and fewer people than the big-name stops. The Columbia Icefield area and marquee hikes like Wilcox Pass and Parker Ridge are an easy drive away, so this makes a great base for exploring the Parkway.

Wildlife & Stargazing
The open river corridor can be good for spotting wildlife at dawn and dusk—keep your distance and your camera ready. After dark, the skies are the main event; this is one of the closest hostels to Jasper’s darkest areas, so plan at least one late-night sky session if conditions are clear.

- Winter: beautiful but cold and austere; expect icy conditions and very short days. The Parkway typically requires winter tires Nov 1–Apr 1.
- Photography & crowds: early morning and late afternoon light are lovely on the river; nights near a new moon are best for stars.
