CAUTION

Honeymoon Lake campground tent restriction

Do not use tents, rooftop tents or tent trailers at Honeymoon Lake Campground until further notice. - The restriction took effect August 21, 2026, because a grizzly bear is frequenting the area and has damaged a tent; Parks Canada says the bear has not been aggressive but has damaged property. - Units with soft-sided pop-outs are permitted only when the pop-outs are not deployed and remain closed. - Violators may be charged under the Canada National Parks Act, with a maximum penalty of $25,000. Check the current Honeymoon Lake restriction before travelling.

CLOSURE

Cavell Road and Maligne Canyon closed for 2026

Cavell Road and Maligne Canyon remain closed for the 2026 season; do not plan a visit to either destination. - The closures remain in place because both destinations provide access to high-angle slopes and exposed areas, and the loss of trees and vegetation from the 2024 wildfire increases the risk of debris flows and landslides. - Before reopening, Parks Canada must confirm slope stability and roadway-safety standards, potentially including retaining structures, guardrails and signage. - Cavell Road: geotechnical assessments and hazard-tree removal are complete; drainage work and paving are planned for summer 2026, while slope stabilization and retaining structures are planned from fall 2026 through spring 2027. The opening date will be determined after the work is complete. - Maligne Canyon: hazard identification and hazard-tree removal are complete, but geotechnical and expert assessments, site and infrastructure investigations, and monitoring remain ongoing. Check current Jasper recovery information before travelling.

CLOSURE

Jasper campground closures and reduced Wapiti capacity

Wabasso and Whirlpool Group campgrounds remain closed for the 2026 camping season, and part of Wapiti remains closed; make other camping plans if needed. - Wabasso: closed until further notice. - Whirlpool Group: closed for the 2026 camping season. - Wapiti: operates at reduced capacity for the 2026 summer season because of the 2024 Jasper Wildfire; a portion remains closed. - Parks Canada says these campgrounds are heavily fire-affected and require significant rebuilding; much of the infrastructure lost was at or near the end of its 50+ year lifespan. Check current Jasper campground information before planning an overnight stay.
