Bukbukluk Lookout

Overview

Bukbukluk is a quick roadside lookout that breaks up the long drive through southern Kakadu. A short signed path leads to a low, open vantage with sweeping views across the old Goodparla Station and the park’s rolling southern ridges. It’s more of a pleasant pause than a headline act—and that’s exactly how to use it.

Why Stop Here

Wildlife

Keep an eye out for birdlife around the scrub, including the pheasant coucal (the lookout’s namesake). Travellers occasionally report seeing brumbies and even the odd wild donkey near the track.

Facilities

Expect basics: a small carpark, picnic tables, and a short loop walk to the viewpoint. There are no toilets, water, or services—plan accordingly.

How Long It Takes

The loop is short—most visitors are in and out within 10–15 minutes, plus time for a snack.

A Note on the Name

“Bukbukluk” comes from the pheasant coucal, known locally as “bukbuk,” a nice cultural touchpoint for this quiet corner of the park.
