Expect multiple galleries of finely detailed x‑ray style paintings—fish, turtles, goannas, wallabies—and rare depictions of now‑extinct animals like the thylacine. You’ll also see "contact art" from first European encounters and important creation ancestors. Ranger talks (often led by Indigenous rangers) add the context that makes the art come alive.

From the car park, a roughly 1 km circular track links the main galleries. An optional 250 m, moderately steep climb leads to the floodplain summit—a 360-degree view that’s beloved at sunset. Most people allow about an hour for the circuit, plus extra for the lookout linger.

Keep an eye out near dusk for Wilkins rock wallabies and blue‑winged kookaburras. The surrounding wetlands host plenty of birdlife—spotting scopes or binoculars pay off from the top.

A Kakadu park pass is required; buy it in advance. Access can close or be restricted in the wet season, so check the latest road report or ask at the Bowali Visitor Centre before you go. Bring water, a hat, sunscreen, sturdy footwear, and insect repellent—the rock can be hot and exposed. Facilities are basic at the car park (toilets, parking, a few picnic tables). There’s no food or water available on site.
