Tucked inside Talamati Bushveld Camp, this floodlit waterhole is all about unhurried, after-dark wildlife watching from the safety of an in‑camp bird hide. Because Talamati is a small, residents‑only camp, the hide stays quieter than the big rest camps, and patient sits are often rewarded.

What You'll See

Elephants are the regular headliners here, with herds drifting in during late afternoons and returning through the night. The broader area produces hyena, buffalo, and—if you’re lucky—lion, leopard, or even wild dog after sunset. Birders do well too: daylight brings classic Lowveld species, while night sessions can deliver owls.

How It Works

You’ll walk from your cottage to the main hide near the camp entrance. The waterhole is floodlit after dark, so you can comfortably watch late into the evening. There’s also a second, quieter hide facing west if you want a more peaceful sit.

Best Time to Visit

• Prime window: dusk through a couple of hours after sunset, with activity often continuing late at night.
• Seasonally, winter concentrates grazers and can boost predator movement.
• Arrive a bit early in the evening to claim a spot; the main hide can fill despite the camp’s small size.

Tips for a Better Sit

• Bring a torch/headlamp and a warm layer for winter nights; a small seat pad makes long waits easier.
• Keep voices low, avoid flash, and use a red filter if you need light—your eyes (and the animals) will thank you.
• Monkeys and baboons can be persistent in camp—keep food locked away and doors latched.
• Self-cater and bring ample drinking water; supplies are limited and tap water quality is variable.

This is a residents‑only spot within a remote bushveld camp accessed by good gravel roads. There’s no restaurant and only basic supplies available, and cell signal is typically poor to nonexistent. Plan accordingly and lean into the quiet—nighttime at this hide is the point.
