Delaware & Hudson Railway Station

Overview

A century-old gateway to Lake George’s tourism boom, the former Delaware & Hudson Railway Station anchors the lakeshore scene on Beach Road. Built circa 1909–1911 and later listed on the National Register of Historic Places (2013), it’s a classic photo stop—especially if you’re already walking between the steamboat docks and Fort William Henry.

The exterior is the star; there’s no active rail service and public interior access isn’t broadly advertised. Historical markers related to the D&H line stand along Beach Road within Lake George Battlefield Park nearby.

Why It Matters

This was the terminus of the D&H Lake George Branch, where early visitors stepped off trains to connect with steamboats and carriages. The 1911 structure replaced an 1882 station; rail service ended in 1958, and the building later came under the Lake George Steamboat Company. Its preservation status recognizes how central rail-and-steam travel was to shaping the village’s tourism.
