Overview

A beloved, unofficial strip of grass-and-sand shoreline between West Brook and Million Dollar Beach, Lake George Dog Beach is where locals and visitors let their pups splash and cool off. It’s simple and scenic: lake views, a shallow entry, and a relaxed vibe right in the village.

What to Expect

• A small, narrow shoreline with grass and sand leading into the lake.
• Lots of happy dogs playing at the water’s edge while owners relax nearby.
• A few benches and a bit of shade; pet-waste stations are typically available.
• No lifeguards and no frills—bring what you need.

Rules and Realities

This is not an official state beach. In 2017, New York State DEC announced that swimming would be prohibited along this shoreline. Yet many recent local descriptions still note dogs playing in the water here. Bottom line: rules have been confusing and may change—always read and follow the onsite signage and any current guidance.

Amenities and Nearby Services

• On-site: benches, shade patches, and pet-waste stations.
• Not on-site: restrooms, showers, or an official parking lot. The closest restrooms are across the road at Lake George Battleground Campground or at nearby Million Dollar Beach (which is not dog-friendly).
• Hours commonly posted for use are roughly 7 AM–8 PM.

Safety Tips

The area is right next to Beach Road and is not fenced. Keep dogs leashed while arriving/leaving and if their recall isn’t rock solid. With no lifeguards, you’re fully responsible for your dog’s safety and conduct.

Best Time to Visit

Summer weekends can get packed. If you want space to toss a ball or ease a nervous pup into the water, aim for early mornings or weekdays. Late afternoon into evening also sees thinner crowds and prettier light on the lake.

Is It Worth It?

If you’re traveling with a dog, absolutely—this is one of the few straightforward spots to get paws in the water near the village. If you want umbrellas, lifeguards, and facilities, head to the official beaches instead (sans dog).
