Reach the bridge via an approximately 3.5‑mile hike from the Whiskey Bend Trailhead through Geyser Valley, passing Goblins Gate, Humes Ranch, and Michael’s Cabin along the way. Road access to Whiskey Bend has periodically involved washouts; some hikers have parked at Madison Falls and biked the road before hiking. From the bridge, it’s roughly 11 miles farther to the summit of Dodger Point via Long Ridge if you’re continuing.

Expect lush temperate rainforest, steep canyon walls, gravel bars, and the powerful Elwha river coursing below. Cross the bridge and take the short boot path downstream for the best upstream perspectives and photos.
Wildlife
Hikers report deer, black bears, river otters, and plenty of birdlife (eagles and songbirds). The Elwha also hosts returning salmon after the dam removals—keep an eye on pools and riffles. Give wildlife space and keep food secure.
Conditions and planning
Trail sections can be muddy or overgrown after rain, and weather in the Elwha Valley can change quickly—pack layers. There are no amenities at the bridge (no restrooms, water, or tables). If you’re heading beyond the bridge, note that Long Ridge has historically had blowdowns that can slow travel. Overnight trips require an Olympic wilderness permit; bear canisters are recommended.
