Hurricane Ridge Visitor Center

Overview

Hurricane Ridge is the park’s easiest ticket to big alpine scenery—reach 5,200+ feet by car and step straight into mountain views. The original Day Lodge/Visitor Center burned in May 2023, but a seasonal visitor contact station now anchors basic operations. Even with reduced services, the ridge remains one of the most rewarding stops in the park.

Trails From Here

Short meadow loops like Cirque Rim and High Ridge start right by the main lot, delivering instant views with minimal effort. For more mileage and ridge walking, head toward Klahhane Ridge. Hurricane Hill is the crowd favorite for a classic, big‑view payoff.

Current Services (Post‑Fire)

The Day Lodge is gone, so think simple and self‑sufficient. In summer, a staffed contact station provides information. Restrooms and water are available, but there’s no food service, store, or indoor space to linger.

What Makes It Special

You can “drive to the mountains” here—rare in this park. The reveal as you crest the final curves is a goosebumps moment, and the short trails make alpine walking accessible to almost anyone.

Wildlife Notes

Deer often graze the meadows, and the endemic Olympic marmot is a local celebrity on warm days. Give all animals space and pack a zoom lens instead of moving closer.
