Getting There

Reach the site by hiking from the Whiskey Bend Trailhead. Expect roughly 2.5–3.5 miles one way via the Elwha River/Geyser Valley trails. Many make a loop that includes the Geyser Valley section and Goblin Gates, a dramatic river narrows. Recent reports note a decommissioned road segment and a gate on the way to the trailhead—check current NPS updates for the Elwha corridor before you go.

Wildlife

This is prime valley habitat. Deer and elk browse the meadows, and black bears are reported in the area, especially spring through summer. Birdlife is active around the forest edges and river corridor.

Camping & Amenities

There are primitive backcountry campsites in the meadow near the cabin (and at nearby Krause Bottom). There are no restrooms, no treated water, and no facilities at the cabin—bring a filter and follow Leave No Trace for waste disposal. If staying overnight, proper food storage (e.g., a bear canister) is expected.
