Overview

These aren’t a single signed lookout—they’re a string of cliff‑edge viewpoints above Kozjak, offering sweeping looks over the lake, cascades, and the famous boardwalks. It’s a rewarding add‑on if you want a big‑picture perspective after walking the lakes.

Getting There

The easiest approach folds into the park’s standard programs. From Entrance 1, follow Program C through the Lower Lakes and Veliki Slap, continue to Kozjak, then ride the electric boat across to the P3 dock. From P3, head uphill to a forest path that traces the cliff edge to several quiet viewpoints. Starting at Entrance 2, Program H covers the Upper Lakes first, then crosses Kozjak by boat to P3 and reaches the same cliff path. There’s also a short drive‑up option to a “postcard” overlook near Veliki Slap, but roadside parking is limited.

What You’ll See

Expect wide, elevated vistas of emerald‑to‑turquoise water and the intricate web of boardwalks below. From some angles you can frame long stretches of Kozjak backed by terraces of falls—classic Plitvice scenery without the shoulder‑to‑shoulder boardwalk crowds.

Facilities and Food

Don’t expect services at the cliff viewpoints. Plan pit stops at the main nodes: the P3 electric‑boat dock and the panoramic‑train stops (St1–St3), plus both main entrances. Simple cafés and kiosks operate at these hubs.

Best Time to Visit

Hit the boardwalks at opening to enjoy the Lower and Upper Lakes before they swell with people around mid‑morning. For the elevated viewpoints, midday to early afternoon often works best because late‑day shade can sink onto the lakes. Summer days typically start earlier than other seasons, with shorter hours in winter.

Trail Notes & Closures

A staircase that once linked the upper cliff viewpoints directly to Veliki Slap has been reported closed; if it’s closed when you visit, you’ll need to backtrack toward P3, adding time and distance. Surfaces can be damp—shoes with good grip help. Supljara Cave has also been reported closed at times.

Pair It With

Bring a simple picnic and linger—these lookouts are calmer than the lakeside paths. Programs C or H naturally combine a full lakes experience, a Kozjak boat ride, and these viewpoints without complicated routing.

Pros

  • Broad, elevated views over Kozjak and the boardwalks
  • Quieter cliff perches that make great picnic spots

Cons

  • No facilities at the overlooks; nearest services are at P3 and shuttle stops
  • Staircase link to Veliki Slap has been reported closed, causing backtracking

Tips

  • Work the viewpoints into Program C or H so the boat and shuttle do the heavy lifting.
  • From P3, head uphill to the cliff path for multiple quiet overlooks.
  • Plan bathroom and snack stops at P3 or St1–St3—there’s nothing at the viewpoints.
  • Aim for midday to early afternoon light; late day can shade the lakes.
  • If the staircase to Veliki Slap is closed, budget time to backtrack via P3.
