Overview

Route B is the Lower Lakes greatest-hits loop from Entrance 1: emerald boardwalks, close-up cascades, and a scenic electric-boat crossing of Lake Kozjak. It’s an easy, crowd-pleasing sampler that covers about 2.5 miles (4 km) in 3–4 hours total.

Route Breakdown

From Entrance 1, descend to canyon viewpoints and the short spur to Veliki Slap (Croatia’s tallest waterfall). Continue on B-marked boardwalks through the Lower Lakes past layered falls like Sastavci. At the Kozjak bridge area, head to pier P3 for the long boat ride across Kozjak to P1. To return, either walk the upper path for elevated lake-and-canyon views, or go a short way to shuttle stop ST2, ride the panoramic train to ST1, then walk about 10–15 minutes back to Entrance 1. Route B follows the same early section as Route A, but adds the lake crossing and shuttle option.

Highlights and Photo Tips

Catch Veliki Slap early for soft light and fewer tour groups. The Lower Lakes boardwalks are prime for wide shots of tiered cascades; a polarizer helps with glare. On the Kozjak crossing, sit by a window edge for reflections and a peek at tiny Štefanijin Islet. Red-dot maps and clear B/P/ST signs keep navigation simple.

Best Time to Hike

Start at opening time to stay ahead of mid‑morning crowds and reduce waits for the boat and shuttle. Build a buffer—queuing can add time, especially late morning to early afternoon. If you decide you want both Lower and Upper Lakes in one day, switch to Route C instead of B.

Practical Notes and Cautions

Boardwalks are narrow, uneven, and can be slick when wet; wear grippy shoes and stay on the planks. Expect stairs near Entrance 1 and some descent/ascent. The boat and panoramic train are included with the park ticket, but frequency varies by season and weather—check the entrance board that morning. No swimming and no drones. Accessibility is limited; the route is generally not wheelchair or stroller friendly.

Who Will Love It

Choose Route B if you want a half‑day, lower‑effort loop that nails the classic Lower Lakes views and layers in a scenic boat ride—without committing to the longer, full-park circuits.

Pros

  • Flexible finish: ride the panoramic train or walk the upper viewpoint path back
  • Efficient half‑day sampler that pairs Lower Lakes boardwalks with a Kozjak crossing

Cons

  • Boat and shuttle queues can add unpredictable wait times
  • Narrow, sometimes slick boardwalks limit passing and aren’t stroller/wheelchair friendly

Parking

Entrance 1 (Lower Lakes); Route B is signed from here.

Caution

Boardwalks are narrow and can be slick; stairs near Entrance 1; boat/shuttle frequency and waits vary by season—check the entrance board.
