Route C

Overview

Route C is the park’s signature circular loop from Entrance 1 that links the Lower and Upper Lakes in a single tour. It’s about 8 km/5 miles total and typically takes 4–5 hours, thanks to a long electric‑boat crossing of Kozjak Lake and a return via the panoramic shuttle. Expect classic boardwalk walking, big waterfall moments, and a satisfying sense of “I saw the whole place” without backtracking.

What You’ll See

From Entrance 1 you’ll wind through the Lower Lakes to the Great Waterfall (Veliki slap), then cross Kozjak by boat and continue on foot into the Upper Lakes. Here the scenery feels wilder and usually less crowded, with standout cascades like Veliki and Mali Prštavac and Galovački buk before looping back via the shuttle along Kozjak’s shore toward the area near Entrance 2 and returning to Entrance 1.

Difficulty & Logistics

The trail is generally easy on well‑maintained paths and boardwalks, but do expect stairs, especially around the Lower Lakes and the Great Waterfall. The park notes the routes aren’t suitable for wheelchairs or strollers. Dogs are allowed but must be leashed at all times—including on the boat and panoramic shuttle. Boat and shuttle rides are included with your entry ticket, and Program C signage is marked in green from Entrance 1.

Crowds, Timing, and Transport

In busy periods, queues for the boat and shuttle can add 1–2 hours to your day, turning a 4–5 hour plan into something closer to a full day. Build in patience for transport waits and photo stops. Operating hours for the boat and shuttle vary by season and day; check the day’s schedule before you start.

Seasonal Notes & Best Time to Hike

Route C is often closed in winter due to snowfall, and the boat/shuttle may not run; some walking is still possible without them, but it won’t be the full loop. Winter sees far fewer crowds and typically much lower entry prices than summer, but expect limited operations. For the classic experience with all segments running and fewer lines, aim for non‑peak times of day and avoid the busiest periods.

Is It Worth It?

Yes—if you want the park’s greatest hits in one thoughtfully routed loop. You’ll cover both lake systems, ride the boat, take the shuttle, and hit the headline waterfalls. The trade‑off is potential transport lines and seasonal closures. If you prefer to linger with fewer people once you’re across Kozjak, the Upper Lakes portion of this loop usually feels calmer than the Lower Lakes.
