Best time to go

Start at Bear Lake Trailhead. The popular lot can fill early on busy days. Rocky Mountain National Park requires a valid entrance fee or park pass, and pets are prohibited on all park trails. In winter, the park's trail guide warns that routes are not marked or maintained; its map also marks avalanche-risk areas near this corridor. Snow can hide the faint lake turnoffs.
