Bundeena to Little Marley Track

Overview

This out-and-back coastal walk runs from Bundeena’s Beachcomber Avenue trailhead to Little Marley Beach, following the northern section of the Coast Track. It serves up sandstone cliffs, ocean panoramas, and a photogenic detour to Wedding Cake Rock before dropping to dune-backed sands. Total distance is about 6.8 miles (10.9 km) return, typically 3–3.5 hours for most walkers.

Trail Experience

Expect a formed track with steps, short steep pinches, and a mix of surfaces: compacted dirt through coastal heath, sandstone platforms, occasional boardwalk, and soft beach sand near the Marley beaches. Wedding Cake Rock is a fenced, fragile highlight—respect signage and stay behind barriers. Little Marley Beach is a lovely, quieter arc of sand only reached on foot.

Difficulty and Who It’s For

Rated moderate: straightforward navigation but exposed clifftops, stairs, and some uneven sections keep it honest. It’s a great pick if you want big-sea views without committing to the full multi-day Coast Track.

Best Time to Hike

Year-round. Summer can be hot and windy on the exposed clifftops—carry plenty of water and sun protection. Winter delivers crisp walking weather and the best shot at whale watching.

Logistics

Start at the end of Beachcomber Avenue, Bundeena; there’s a small car park and a toilet at the trailhead. Many walkers simply turn around at Little Marley and return the same way. If you push farther toward Wattamolla, you’ll need a car shuffle or pickup. Vehicle entry fees apply inside the park; if you’re parking on Bundeena streets and walking in, the vehicle fee does not apply.

Safety and Etiquette

Little Marley (and nearby beaches) are remote and unpatrolled with strong currents and a steep drop-off—treat the beach as a scenic destination rather than a safe swim. Cliffs are unfenced in places; keep clear of edges and heed all signage, especially around unstable formations. Mobile reception can be patchy; bring sufficient water, food, hat, sunscreen, and consider binoculars for bird or whale watching.
