Eagle Rock

Eagle Rock is a large sandstone overhang above the sea on Royal National Park’s Coast Track, beside Curracurrong Falls. The rock, waterfall and Coast Track are three different things, even though visitors often take them in together. This is a substantial coastal walk, not a roadside lookout.

From Wattamolla, follow the signs towards Providential Point, then continue south on the Coast Track. The rock is about 3.8 kilometres each way, or roughly 8 kilometres return before extra viewpoint detours. Expect raised boardwalk, natural rock and some ups and downs. Pack food and water for the walk. Wattamolla’s picnic area has toilets and tables, but a drinking-water tap there isn’t confirmed.

The recognizable head-and-beak profile is angle-dependent. From the rock itself it can look like a broad ledge; look back towards it from the main track near the falls to see the shape more clearly. A short side path, around 150 metres, gives a closer, front-on view of Curracurrong Falls. Keep to the track rather than stepping onto the projecting edge. For a photo, frame the sandstone with the falls and open coast behind it.

Curracurrong Falls sits right beside the landmark, but it’s a separate stop. After good rain the water can split into two cascades; on a windy day, spray may blow back up the cliff. Neither effect is guaranteed, but they’re good reasons to pause and watch the water rather than treat the spot as a quick photo turn-around.
