Flights usually hop in from Arusha (roughly 1.5 hours) or other park strips like Seronera (around 40 minutes).

If you want the remote northern reaches without the long drive, this is the gateway. The Lobo area is consistently good for predators (think lions, leopards, and cheetah) and classic Serengeti scenery with rocky kopjes, but it sees far fewer vehicles than central areas. During the migration months, herds move through here before crossing into Kenya—being based near Lobo means you can react quickly to where the animals actually are.

What to Expect on Arrival

This is a no-frills strip designed for light aircraft. Facilities are minimal and usually limited to a basic pit (long‑drop) toilet—bring your own tissue and sanitizer. Small bush planes don’t have onboard lavatories, so plan accordingly. Transfers are by lodge or operator vehicles waiting at the strip; there’s no walk-up transport desk.

Peak migration viewing in this ecosystem typically runs July–October, with the broader dry season (June–October) concentrating animals at water sources. The green season (November–May) brings lush scenery and excellent birding, with fewer crowds.

Practicalities and Pitfalls

There’s no fuel or real supplies at Lobo; top up and stock up in Seronera before you commit north. Roads in the dry months are straightforward on the main arteries, but side tracks can fade or flood after rains—let your lodge driver handle the choices. Expect true wilderness ambience and low traffic.
