Kettle Falls Dam Overlook is a public viewpoint beside the dam where Rainy and Namakan Lakes meet at the U.S.-Canada boundary. Add it to a Kettle Falls visit for a close look at the dam and a view south into Canada. Reach the area by water; visitor docks serve both lakes, so this is a planned boat stop rather than a roadside pullout.

What to look atThe view brings the dam, the channel below it and the rocky, pine-lined shore together.

The view brings the dam, the channel below it and the rocky, pine-lined shore together. For a strong photo, keep the concrete bays near one edge and include the channel and wooded bank opposite; the overlook rail gives you a foreground anchor. The viewpoint is its own stop, separate from Kettle Falls Hotel in the same historic district.

Before the damKettle Falls was a travel bottleneck between Namakan and Rainy Lakes.

Kettle Falls was a travel bottleneck between Namakan and Rainy Lakes. Indigenous peoples gathered, hunted and speared sturgeon here; voyageurs paddled through and portaged their goods around the falls. Later, prospectors used the route on their way to the Rainy Lake gold mines. The portage made this a crossroads long before the dam became part of the view.

Built at the crossingConstruction of the Kettle Falls dams began around 1910.

Construction of the Kettle Falls dams began around 1910. The stonecutters and masons who built them were among the early patrons of the Kettle Falls Hotel. The wider historic district also includes a log damkeeper's cabin built in 1910 and archaeological features. The hotel is a separate nearby stop with meals and overnight lodging.
