Tables tuck into the trees beside a broad, marshy “flat.” In spring and early summer, the meadow pops with flowers and draws waterbirds—easy to hear, trickier to spot. Bison regularly use the flat as a travel corridor, so keep your distance and let them pass. You won’t feel far from the road here, but the shade and scenery make it a relaxing lunch stop.

Amenities

You’ll find 18 picnic tables (one area favorite for group lunches), four fire grates, a vault toilet, and trash/recycling bins. There’s parking right at the site. Bring your own water; picnic areas here don’t provide potable water. Vault toilets are the norm—carry hand sanitizer just in case.

Morning and golden-hour light treat the meadow well for photos, and spring/early summer are prime for flowers and bird sounds. It’s also a handy spot while you wait on the eruption schedule along nearby Firehole Lake Drive.
