Lost Coin Lake Ranger Cabin

A 1936 backcountry cabin for a fully self-sufficient overnight.

Overview

About Lost Coin Lake Ranger Cabin

Why stop

  • A distinctive historic cabin for a backcountry night.

Heads up

  • The 7 km hike and lack of utilities make it a committed stay.
The Ontario Forestry Branch built the cabin in 1936. A 1973 assessment dismissed it because it was isolated from roads and canoe routes; that same remoteness is now part of the appeal of a cabin night in the backcountry. Algonquin’s ranger cabin rental program began in 1996.

Lost Coin Lake Ranger Cabin is a one-room, open-concept log cabin on a shallow, weedy lakeshore, built in 1936 and now rented for up to four people. This is an overnight backcountry stay, not an open cabin to drop into. It suits people who want a historic ranger cabin and can manage the long approach; the lake itself is not a swimming stop.
