Plan 30–60 minutes to wander the roughly 1 km boardwalk to Sanson’s Peak and the historic Sulphur Mountain Cosmic Ray Station, a National Historic Site from mid‑20th‑century radiation research. It’s fully exposed up here—views for days, and wind to match.

On‑Site Experience

Inside the summit building you’ll find exhibits, a small theater experience, a café, and full dining (Sky Bistro and Northern Lights Alpine Kitchen). Restrooms are modern and the whole setup is impressively maintained.

Wildlife

Heavy foot traffic means wildlife sightings on the summit itself are sporadic. You may spot alpine birds like Clark’s nutcrackers; goats or bighorn sheep sometimes roam the slopes. Bigger animals are uncommon at the top, though you might glimpse them lower on the mountain during the ride.

Practicalities

• Getting there: Go up by gondola or hike the Sulphur Mountain trail and ride down. Parking at the base can fill—public transit/shuttles from town are an easy win.
