Perched on a bend of the Mt Norquay Scenic Drive above town, King’s Lookout is the easy win: a quick pull-in for a sweeping, high-angle view of Banff, the Bow River, and big-name peaks like Rundle and Cascade. It’s the lower-key alternative to the gondolas and summit hikes—zero hiking required, just roll up, step out, and soak it in.

Wildlife

This roadside perch sees regular drive-by wildlife: elk and deer are common; bighorn sheep often work the slopes; bears do wander through on occasion. Keep a respectful distance and never feed wildlife—enjoy the sightings from your car or the viewpoint.

Know before you go

This is a straightforward viewpoint with a small pullout and limited parking. There are no washrooms, food, or water here; the closest services are farther up at the Norquay area or back in town. Expect a short stop—great for photos, a breather, and a different perspective over Banff.

Best time to visit

Sunrise and sunset light up the valley and carve texture into Rundle and Cascade—photographers will be happiest then. Midday is fine for a quick look, but the light is flatter and parking can be tighter during peak travel hours and on summer weekends.
