Moraine Lake Rockpile

Start on the signed Consolation Lakes Trail after arriving at Moraine Lake, then turn right at the first trail junction for Rockpile Loop. The path climbs through the rocky moraine to several viewpoints, including the famous Twenty Dollar View. Stay on the developed route and do not climb on the rocks.

Moraine Lake Road is closed to personal vehicles year-round. Take the Parks Canada shuttle or another permitted transit/commercial operator to Moraine Lake; shuttle reservations are required during the main operating season and exact dates are weather dependent. Parking at the destination is not a dependable option. The trailhead point is the transit drop-off; the first mapped route vertex is a short distance away on the signed access path.

This is an easy, family-friendly walk, but it is not wheelchair accessible because of the stone steps, uneven rocky tread, and short steep sections. Allow extra time for crowds and photo queues at the viewpoints. The route is not suitable for strollers or wheelchairs.

Stay on the signed trail, do not climb or scramble on the rockpile, and give other visitors room at the viewpoints. Moraine Lake access and the trail can be affected by seasonal closures, winter avalanche hazard, snow, and ice. Keep wildlife wild and follow current Parks Canada advisories before travelling.
