Parker Ridge Trail

Parker Ridge is a moderate out-and-back from the Parker Ridge parking lot on the Icefields Parkway. The trail climbs through steady switchbacks above treeline to a broad ridge with views over the Saskatchewan Glacier and the Columbia Icefield. The mapped corridor is about 2.8 km one way; the visitor hike is about 5.4 km (3.4 miles) return with roughly 250 m (820 ft) of elevation gain. The route is a well-worn gravel-and-dirt path with no scrambling, but the ridge is exposed and can be windy, with steep drop-offs nearby.

Parking is at the Parker Ridge trailhead, about 40 km north of Saskatchewan Crossing or 9 km south of the Icefield Centre on Hwy 93N; vault toilets are available. A valid national parks pass is required to stop and park. Dogs are allowed on leash. Weather changes quickly above treeline, and early- or late-season snow can make the path slippery, so carry layers and traction; carry bear spray and stay on the established trail to protect fragile alpine tundra.

The trail is popular in summer, so early or late starts can be quieter and may offer calmer light. Keep children and dogs close on exposed sections. Continue only as far along the ridge as conditions and footing allow; the mapped experience ends at the main ridge viewpoint, while longer west-peak routes are separate routes.
