Perched above the upper switchbacks on the Red Lodge side of US‑212, Rock Creek Vista Point delivers the classic Beartooth Highway panorama: the deep Rock Creek Valley, the Hellroaring Plateau, and peaks marching toward Beartooth Pass. A short, hard‑surface path leads to a fenced overlook with interpretive displays, so you get the views and the story in one stop.

Expect very bold chipmunks hustling for handouts—resist the urge to feed them. The broader Beartooth area supports mountain goats, marmots, moose, elk, mule deer, and both black and grizzly bears, so keep food secured and your distance if you spot anything larger than a squirrel.

The Beartooth Highway typically opens in late May and closes by mid‑October, but storms can change plans in a hurry. Even in summer, winds rip across the overlook and temperatures can drop fast—pack a warm layer and be ready for sudden weather shifts.

Aim for early morning or late afternoon for softer light and fewer people. Plan 15–30 minutes for the stop, longer if you’re photographing or picnicking.
